Calon Arang, a very unique Balinese classic dance - Part 1
The story: In Girah, a small village in the kingdom of Kahuripan, East Java (1009-1042), lived a girl whose name was Ratna Mangali. Even though she was very beautiful, people were reluctant to take her as a wife because her mother was a famous witch, the widow Calon Arang who practiced black magic. This dance is very rarely performed by the people of Bali. This dance is not categorized as a regualar entertainment. Calon Arang, classified as a sacred dance, so it is not shown commercially.
If you are lucky, you can watch this unique dance when there are traditional ceremonies in Bali. You can ask your tour guide, or you can get information on Bali's tourism calendar.
