History Keris Mpu Gandring1

Keris, traditional weapon of South East Asia.

Mpu Gandring was a keris maker or weaponsmith from East Java, Indonesia, who allegedly lived in the 13th century. Mpu Gandring was a friend Bango Samparan, the stepfather of Ken Arok, founder of the Kingdom of Singhasari. He was killed by the future king using the keris he made for him. Just before he took his last breath, he cast a famous curse on the keris that it would kill Ken Arok himself and seven generations of his decendants. Mpu Gandring is featured in the folklore The Legend of the Keris of Mpu Gandring.
